THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND!!

Happy Friday to you and Happy Birthday to my dear friends Colleen, Karen, and Steph!!

I have to take a moment and say thank you to Steph, a friend from college, who has been there for me and my hubby and kids thru lots of ups and downs, ins and outs, good times and lots happy times and a lot of shoulder crying!  It seems like so long ago that we were hanging out in Navy Hall with Dr. K and Dr. Jones and thinking of the future and teaching all of those special kids.  We have certainly seen a lot over the years – teaching jobs, marriage, houses, kids, moves (well for me anyhow!) and I really want to say how much I appreciate your friendship!

Karen, we met in our early mothering days (seems a lifetime ago!) and had many a fun day with the kiddos and then pregnancy together, and those early scrapbooking days of stickers and cardstock – woohoo!  Lots of fun with MOMS club and our board memberships – talk about crazy!  Even though we are far apart, you are always close in heart and I know that if I ever needed to, I could call you and you’d be right there to lend a helping hand.

And Colleen, my dear friend and crafty cohort!  What can I say?  Many a year ago, we met while holding our little ones while waiting for our oldest to come out of Mrs. Schroeder’s class… You are a true friend that is always there for me when I need you.  Your support and caring ways have made me feel so loved.  You have shared of yourself and your family and I really appreciate it.

While saying all that, you, my blog-following friends, should know that Colleen is a MAJOR supporter of my crafts and without her, you wouldn’t be reading this right now!   HA!  She is always there to gently push me into the next realm of my crafting ‘career’ and I do appreciate it.  AND she is a major commenter here on my blog – check out how many times she is on here 🙂  Thanks lady!

Now, on to a card for the celebration!  I never got to post this card I made a while back, but I thought it appropriate for today since  it was so girly!  It is cuttlebug embossed on the top, chalked with pink to show the ‘happy birthday’ and then some patterned paper on the bottom and finished off with some flowers and ribbon.  Fun to make and fun to give!

I should note to the special ladies that I have your cards (not the one pictured) and presents, but not mailed as of yet since I am behind the eight ball this week.  Sorry, your friend is a lame friend :(.  But I hope that you have a wonderful birthday and enjoy a special day doing fun things!

Happy Birthday to my Crafting Buddy! April 28, 2011

Filed under: Birthdays,cricut,Cuttlebug,Fiskars,Gifts,Spellbinders,Uncategorized — anotherkatecreation @ 3:00 am

Today is my oldest daughter’s birthday – Abbie turns 8!!!  Happy Birthday!!!  I am so excited for her I had to share!  While this year we are keeping it low key – (I’ll share in another post what we are doing once I have pictures) – a few years back we had a great tea party for her birthday.  I had such fun planning this party for/with her.  I thought I’d share some pictures of the fun things we made for everyone.

First, we made invitations.  She chose the paper to be a Heidi Grace pattern in pink and brown, perfect for tea cups and tea!  I cut the mug and steam with the cricut and then added it to a scalloped oval.  Close To My Heart had a great set a few years back that had tea cups and this cute tea bag – we added that to the front with the stamping and string to make it “realistic” looking.

It’s hard to see it all in this picture, but this was ‘the ensemble’ we made for each guest.  I had fun going to different thrift shops in the area and finding  china for each of the girls to use as a place setting.  I then decorated the table with paper doily placemats and we made a coordinating place card for each girl.  In the background, you may be able to see the fun tissue paper flowers we made for the girls – oh, they had so much fun with these!!

And here is the favor box we made for each girl.  I found these brown tins at Michaels and covered them with the coordinating papers, then cut several sizes of cricut flowers and fluffed and stacked them and added a brown brad in the middle.  I then took tiny tags and stamped each girl’s name on one and added it just under the flower.  We added some small lip gloss treats to the box and viola – a fancy tea party and fun for all!

Now, as for the title of my post, Abbie is my crafting buddy – she is always by my side and loves to do creative things.  I love to see her take on things and even ask her for advice on cards or layouts sometimes when I need another set of eyes!  She definitely has her own opinions and is really growing as an artist.  I am so proud of all that she does and how poised she is for being ‘only’ 8 years old!

Well, I am off now to make her cake while she is out of the house, wrap a few presents ( oh, she’s got some good ones this year!!! ) and finish off some more things around the house.  This week is a very busy one in our house – we have Abbie’s birthday, her grandmother’s birthday ( Happy Birthday Glenda!), I have 4 friends with birthdays, 2 kids receiving First Communion this weekend, and all the regular day to day stuff!  Whew – I hope I make it to Sunday! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by today – I hope you all have an extra special day!

My Pilot…. April 26, 2011

Filed under: Scrapbooking — anotherkatecreation @ 6:15 am

Here’s another scrapbook layout I did on the retreat a few weeks ago (unfortunately, it seems like a million weeks ago today!).

My son participated in the school’s Science Fair in March and while it was fresh in my mind, I went at it.  Really it was quite easy since I had “stuff” I wanted to add to the page.  Brendan wants to be a pilot when he grows up and so… his science project was to learn and discuss “What Makes Planes Fly?”  We had in depth conversations (way too deep for me sometimes) about all the information and he really got into it.   He earned a badge and a certificate that I wanted to keep in a safe place. I took some pictures with him and even got one that I think is pretty cool – he is being interviewed and then the interviewer gave him a written review which I added next to the picture.

I tried to tie in the theme of the airplanes with some fun airplane paper and then the fun colors all around.  I like the simplicity of it and yet the fun of it too.  It was a neat thing for him to be a part of and I’m proud of him!

*p.s. – I think the project turned out okay for doing it with little supplies in the hotel room!! 🙂

On a crafty note, I have been diving back in to do some projects – just finished off some neat holiday items for submissions and will add some more for the next few in the coming weeks.  I am hoping to get out there again!  If not, you’ll get a peek at them soon! 🙂

Hope you are enjoying some nice weather wherever you may be! 🙂

Bunny Love April 22, 2011

Hey there – did you think I forgot about you???  Well, I didn’t – life has just gotten in the way again!  The past few weeks have been busy on the house hunting front and then LOTS of family talks about what the right house might be for us.  We haven’t found it just yet, but we feel like we are getting closer every day!

I wanted to post these cute little guys before Easter got away from me.  I had such fun making them – their little smiling faces looking at me while I was working on them 🙂  made me smile too!

The box is a cricut cut from Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge and the stamps are from Inky Antics.  I saw them at a convention making these little guys and the ideas came pouring.  I have made lots of them – for friends, for party favors, for the kid’s school classes, and just for fun as a treat holder.  I love them all so much!   They may seem complicated, but they are really quite simple since it is black stamped on white cardstock – I only chalked pink on the ears and nose.  Glue them all together, stuff it with candy, and I added a small bow to the top – viola!

Here’s what happens when you turn your back on just a couple of them:

HA! HA!  Just kidding – had to make the joke!  That’s what they look like when you make a whole bunch for the kid’s classes!

Well, I hope all of you have a Blessed Easter if you celebrate.  I am hoping to have a great day with my family and fun watching the kids egg hunt, dye eggs, and then have a great meal together!

Enjoy!

Pumpkins in Springtime?? April 13, 2011

Filed under: Scrapbooking — anotherkatecreation @ 3:00 am

I told you that I would photograph and start to show you some of the layouts that I made on my scrappin’ retreat a couple of weekends ago.  Right at the moment, it seems like ages ago…. but, alas I will share with you and then hope that I can get back to work on some more pages.

I believe that it is in every scrapbooker (well except a few that I know) that we are all perpetually behind in our books, but the memories are still there.  We have more photos of things we want to scrap than time to scrap them.  In talking with my friends at the crop, we all told of times when we purposefully “forgot” the camera or have stopped taking photos because we simply have too much already and don’t want to add to the pile.  And, yes, I have been guilty of that as well.

As I will share with you, in these next few posts, these are not recent photos of any of my kids.  Case is point, here are pictures of the preschool class trip to the pumpkin patch for my son.  (He’s the one that just turned 10 in Feb.!)  My daughter was also with us and they had fun posing in the patch for me.

Now, I can tell you that these were taken on October 8, 2005!!!  Crazy how time flies!!  But I can still remember this day – actually, truth be told I had a VERY hard time scrapping these photos and this trip and have been putting it off because of the memories it evoked.  But this weekend, I made myself plow through and get ‘r dun!

Most of my layouts were simple, as you can see – with most of my supplies in storage right now, I didn’t have tons of embellies and ribbons and “stuff” to add.  But I kinda like the simplicity of this page and the colors.  And who cannot love those cute little faces??  Ahhh…. if they could only stay little forever!!!

Another Thankful Day April 8, 2011

Happy Friday Everyone!  I am so hopeful that this weekend it will finally be sunshiney!  It has been grey and rainy every day this week and I am really getting tired of it.  It does not make me want to do anything and yet, I have so much to do!

Here’s another look at a set of thank you notecards I had made a while back :

This card showcases purple and the pansy flower sticker – I just love those think epoxy stickers!  I cuttlebugged the swirls image in lavender paper and then mounted it on top of the white card with a cut out circle and scallop to make it pop.  Simple grossgrain across the bottom to highlight the little tag with a shiny, tiny ribbon tie.

Hope you enjoy your weekend! 🙂

Friendship Fun April 6, 2011

Filed under: Birthdays,Close To My Heart,Gifts,Uncategorized — anotherkatecreation @ 6:28 pm

Sneaking this one in before the end of today 🙂

I had a great time this past weekend with my girlfriends, so I am sending this one out to say “thank you for your friendship”!  We all shared some great memories and stories from all parts of our lives, had many laughs, and got LOTS accomplished!  My wonderful hubby had great fun with the kids and they were each so excited to share and see all the fun scrapbook pages I had made for them.  Of course, they wanted to see them in their scrapbooks – but they are all in boxes! oye!  So for now, they got to see their pages and when I get to the scrapbooks, they will have something to pour over and look at forever.  Until then, at least I got the pages done! 🙂

I will be taking pictures this week and hopefully posting some of the fun things I did!  I got so much accomplished that I guess Colleen was right and my mojo has started flowing again!  I was able to knock out 69 pages and a mini album in just the three days of scrappin’!  wahoo!  AND I won some great prizes too – some Tim Holtz ( yes ladies, I said THE name!) distress inks, a scrapbooking pin and a couple of other little things!  It was a really nice group of people to scrap with and hopefully I’ll get another opportunity to do it again soon!

I hope that you have some good friends in your life that are there for you no matter what is happening – good, bad, happy or sad!

All supplies are from Close to My Heart
